In 2003, she completed a Master's course in Health Science and Nursing at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Tokyo, and received a PhD in the same field (thesis).
After working as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Waseda University and an assistant professor at the Department of Healthcare Quality Assessment, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, in April 2009 he became an associate professor at the Department of Healthcare Quality Assessment, Graduate School of Medicine, The University of Tokyo, in April 2014 (part-time from May 2015), a professor at the Department of Healthcare Policy and Management, School of Medicine, Keio University, in May 2015, and a visiting professor at the School of Medicine, Osaka University, in December 2020.

He utilizes data science and other sciences to challenge social change and conducts research activities with a focus on contributing to improving reality. He is involved in a variety of practices, including those outside of the medical field, such as the National Clinical Database, which is linked to the specialist physician system and involves 5,000 hospitals, and the nationwide COVID-19 survey conducted by LINE and the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. At the same time, he works with various stakeholders, including academia, government, economic organizations, NPOs, and companies, to create a new vision for society. One of the visions for society that Miyata co-creates is a "resonating society," where life resonates to create a diverse society and where each individual shines as they experience that world together.
